“Halloween Window Painting at Rankins”
Artist: James Geddes
Many of us were fortunate enough to
have participated in
window painting In Auburn.
Or had fun walking the
streets of Auburn to see all the
Halloween art by kids
from the Auburn area. St. Joseph, Alta
Vista, Auburn El.
, EV Cain and more participated. Thanks to
the Lions Club
who hosted this event for many many years.
Not only did they
promote the window painting but they also
annual parade for kids! I believe this started in
the parade began at the State Theater. After 1946
parade stated at the Freeman Hotel and ended at the
auditorium. The Placer High marching band played
of all the kids. I can remember taking that walk
of kids in full costume! We all marched up on
stage at the
high school auditorium and showed off our
costumes. I was nervous
standing on the stage with the
entire town there. What great memories!!!
some of the most popular widows to paint on.
Most of us
buddied up with others but not always. It was
painting on the Bon Ami windows. Nancy remembers
paint in milk cartons saved from the cafeteria.
Mrs. Chastain who was always so excited about
the kids! She loved how all the kids were doing
art for fun!
