“Orleans Hotel Buggy Ride”
Artist: James Geddes

This drawing is from the 1910 era when the streets
in Auburn were still dirt, dust or mud depending on
the time of year. The buggy is on Court street as it
descends down to join Main Street which is now
Lincoln Way.

The dome of the new Placer County Courthouse
can be seen peeking out above the New Orleans
Hotel. The hotel was torn down in 1959 and
replaced with a gas station. This was around the
same time Firehouse #2 was moved to its current
location.

Photo reference is from Arthur Sommers
private collection.
