“Rendezvous at the State”
Artist: James Geddes

This drawing is from a photo taken in 1935-36. William Powell
was starring in the movie Rendezvous.

When I was young "The Show" cost $.25 and we all thought
it highway robbery when they raised it to $.35! We all looked
forward to going to the State and sometimes if our parents
accompanied us we could sit in the balcony! Maybe even in
the loges!

At Christmas time all the classes were escorted to the theatre
for a free movie. It was great fun! Snacks with loads of sugar
were only a NICKEL!

In the distance you can see the Opera House and Linden
Avenue leading up into the pines. I remember the Flying A gas
station where my folks bought their gas. It sat on the corners
of Pine, Almond and Lincoln Way.
