Uncle Ralph

It goes without saying that “Uncle Ralph” is a true Hillman!

In 1923 Ralph graduated from Placer High School. Ralph was a star
athlete at Placer and participated on championship basketball, track,
and cross-country teams as a student. He was also a member of 440-yard
relay team that competed at the state meet. In 1927 Ralph became a
custodian at Placer. In 1944 Ralph earned an emergency teaching
credential from Sac State and began his teaching/coaching career at
Placer.

Ralph coached the Placer teams to 5 SFL championships and 5 Kendall
Arnett Tournament tiles. His cross country record was 74 wins and only
28 losses. Placer students excelled at track events under Coach
LeFebvre with 18 SFL championships, 18 Placer Relay championships and
an over-all track record of 123-27!

Ralph was a charter member in the California Coaches
Hall of Fame. (1971)

Charter member of the Golden West Hall of Fame. (1975)

Place High School stadium and Placer Relays are now named
in his honor. (1987)

Between Randall Fee and myself, I believe we ended up owing Uncle
Ralph 1563 Hershey bars! Many students shot baskets for Hershey bars
with Ralph who had a deadly two-handed set shot from anywhere! He was
a great guy and Placer Icon! - JGeddes
